The history of Kaga Hyakumangoku・Castle town Kanazawa dates back to 1590 when Toyotomi Hideyoshi achieved unification of Japan during the Sengoku period. Those days, Kanazawa Castle was built by Toshiie Maeda, a vassal of Oda Nobunaga. Toshiie Maeda also built Kenrokuen Garden, which became one of Best Three Gardens in Japan. As an ancient city with rich history, Kanazawa is also called “Little-Kyoto” nowadays for its traditional Japanese culture and heritages of Kaga Yuzen Dyeing, Gold Leaf, Kutani Ware and Wajima Lacquer, etc.

During the Edo period of the Tokugawa shogunate, Toshiie Maeda, the nonhereditary feudal lord of Kanazawa, could harvest hyakuman-koku of rice in his territory, which is now about 150,000 tons of rice. It was widely known at the time that if talking about the politics, Edo (Tokyo) was the center; if culture, that would be Kaga (Kanazawa).

As a historical and cultural city, Kanazawa and its surrounding areas are full of rich hot springs and it is the largest hot spring area in Japan. Komatsu International Airport, the nearest airport in the area, conducts direct flights to and from Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Most Asian cities sit within two to three hours reach from Komatsu, which makes the transportation more convenient. With the high efficiency of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, it will take only two and a half hours from Kanazawa to Tokyo. And from downtown Kanazawa, it takes only one hour to get to the shorelines, mountains, and hot springs nearby by car, which are full of splendid interests. Furtherly, Kanazawa is famous for its local sea produces and sea food, which attracts more and more tourists, either domestic or international, year by year.
